The News of La Gazette Des Arts No. 32 of april 15th, 2016
Art seems to respect its basic elements. Emotion of the artist retranscribed on the web, showed off the beaten track and off the ordered schema of the History of art... To discover something else, in Les bons plans de la Dépêche, let’s go and see Carambolages at the Grand Palais. Then let’s fly away to the surrealist universe of Bruno Sallaberry, tinged with lyricism and lightness, to explore Du côté des artistes. While Echo de Psyché will study, on the occasion of the exhibition L’ art et l’ enfant currently at the musée Marmottan, the pregnance of childish image through the different ages of painting. Then a big contemporary event in Monaco with the first edition of Art Monte-Carlo that we celebrate in Actualité du marché de l’ Art. And still, for comfort and leisure, the latest publications of books, in Le coin du bibliophile.
Still an increasing number of readers to join us !
We thank you for that...
Sincerely
Georges LEVY

Carambolages : a universal game of dominoes !
Of every epoch and taking all cultures together; those are 180 art works which, grouped together in the form of a « musée imaginaire « speak to our understanding. In La Tête d’ obsidienne, during a discussion with Picasso, Malraux claimed: « that the real place of the musée imaginaire is necessarily a mental place. « For these works which follow each other without crossing, in the travelling of a film proficiently staged, match questions. Sometimes provocating, in some cases sensual or romantic, they allow the spectator, the freedom of choice to interpret those creations. To have a modern look at signatures such as Boucher, Giacometti, Rembrandt, Dürer, Man Ray or Annette Messager. For the curator of the exhibition, Jean-Hubert Martin, much more than a performance, it’s a matter of « opening up our traditional approach to art, of overcoming the boundaries of genres, epochs and cultures. As a matter of fact, to speak to the imagination of everyone. « To the order imposed by the chronology to which the history of art refers to: from archaism to classical, from primitive to civilized... is often opposed the anarchic universe of the artist whose way permits access to the beauty sometimes muddled, vague, amassing a sum of affects bursting out of chaos to bring a new order and win over large audiences, in search of aesthetic experiences.
Carambolages then echoes the very concept of « musées sentimentaux « elaborated by Daniel Spoerri, fed with stories and legends retrieved from the history and the culture of all countries. Where each object is put in place within an experience where outside voices and inside concerns proliferate.
A world moving, puzzling, surprising with intensity which raises questions and cannot leave anyone indifferent.
Carambolages will leave its mark on the history.

Du coté des artistes...
The surrealist monumentality of Bruno Sallaberry
Since his childhood, drawing sticks it to him. Coming from the Basque country, he was very soon inspired by this sea calm on some occasions or suddenly raging.
Passionately fond of the beauty of parisian monuments, having a passion for Antiquity, he knew how to create a directing honouring, in a big way, a scenario where strength and power harmonize to give to his paintings a surrealist dimension.
Here we are then, suddenly absorbed, within a capital manhandled by rough waters. A situation close to the Flood from where appear suddenly characters from the mythology rethought by the great masters.
The work of the artist is eloquent. It testifies to an historical awareness of the future of humanity, its societal misfortunes that a certain tenderness manages, for instance, to moderate with the grace of Psyche in the arms of a Cupid in love with his goddess, while a cruise liner is smashed, in the distance, beneath the swells.
Fantastic scenes where the characters transpierce the canvas, facing a horizon, absolute... His work is unique, striking, as if jumping of nowhere, to go toward somewhere else, whose exit we don’t know and that only our imagination can interpret.

Echo de Psyché
The child’s face through the history of Art
« L’ art et l’ enfant, chefs-d’ oeuvre de la peinture française « presented at the musée Marmottan, until july 3rd, testifies to a particular interest, the one of the child and of his stature through the history of pictorial art. From the child-god to the child-king, to the revelation of Enlightenment when the child becomes the center of social and political concerns... The representation of his figure doesn’t stop to evolve.
A rising monarch, symbol of power, he becomes the nice little gavroche who wanders in the streets, asking for charity, symbol of poverty.
Seventy-five masterworks by Le Nain, Champaigne, Renoir, Denis, Matisse, Picasso, Chaissac or Dubuffet which really wonder about its influence exerted on the course of the artist.
«Genius, Baudelaire writes in 1863, is only childhood regained at will»... Is that to say that innocence, imagination, ingenuousness have an influence on a certain spirit form ?
The continual reference to childhood orders a revival, a return to our roots, to that matrix that raises us and guides us toward the center and the essentials of our destiny.
Corot and so many others realized that.
The nature is at our doors.
Like a dream that haunts our imagination, that chases us to give to art, the dimension necessary for its realizations.

ArtMonte-Carlo inaugurates its 1st edition
While the season is in full swing in Monaco, a new show called ArtMonte-Carlo, will be held from april 30th until may 1st.
It will gather modern and contemporary art as well as design. Following the example of ArtGenève whose destiny Thomas Hug presides over as well... It is the fruit of the enthusiasm of gallery owners and collectors who want to make this event, a leading artistic platform on the French Riviera.
Selective in its choices, it is designed to be an alternative to big international fairs.
About 36 art galleries will take part in this first session. A phenomenon enriched with 15 institutional exhibitions, thus giving the floor to renowned artists.
An event that will go on with the progress of the sleepless night where thirty artists or so will appear on stage.
Not to be missed under any circumstances !
